TOXICITY No adverse reactions of any sort were found with Geroforte in the dosage used 2 tablets b.i.d. ; . Even if one chooses such parameters as body weight, hand-grip strength or plasma protein levels which can be accurately estimated, their correlation with the subject's feeling of physical and mental well-being is so variable that they are hardly of any help. And what the elderly patient actually expects or should expect, from a geriatric tonic is a state of sustained fitness in keeping with his age rather than any increase in muscle power or body weight. We have, therefore, relied largely on the subjective response of the patients, assessed with care and caution, while evaluating the clinical efficacy of Geriforte--a new geriatric tonic from The Himalaya Drug. Co. The safety of Geriiforte and its freedom from any toxicity has been convincingly established by our previous studies on experimental animals Kothari et al., 1976 ; . Thus, rats kept on Geriofrte for 6 to 12 months on a weight-based dose schedule corresponding to 6 tablets a day for an average man, did not produce any adverse reactions. Overall, Geriforte leads to an improvement in mental and physical status and a feeling of well-being. Simultaneous findings in our study were better appetite, digestion and regular bowel habits. INTRODUCTION Stress has assumed the dimensions of a distinct health problem and a particularly pernicious and elusive one at that. It can build up during work performance and then spill over into leisure hours. Nowadays, as we encounter rapid industrialisation, much is talked about stress in industry. The causes of stress are varied and it is hard to pin-point the exact one. Factors such as an incompetent boss, a noisy work place, even too little work, being caught in a traffic jam etc. can convert stress into a health danger. Occupational stresses often tend to neglect physical environmental factors. Despite this they can influence the work not only physically but also psychologically. For this reason a pilot study was undertaken in large, medium and small scale industries at the upper, middle and lower managements to ascertain whether stress is present or not and if present, its type and degree. Our study was done to establish whether Geriforte, an indigenous drug formulation which is non-hormonal, exerts any effect on industrial stress. MATERIAL AND METHODS This a pilot study comprising 18 control individuals and 18 experimental individuals taken from two large industries, two medium industries and two small scale industries. Design, Setting, and Patients A prospective randomized controlled trial of 206 patients with clinically localized prostate cancer who were randomized to receive 70 Gy 3D-CRT alone n 104 ; or in combination with 6 months of AST n 102 ; from December 1, 1995, to April 15, 2001. Eligible patients included those with a prostatespecific antigen PSA ; of at least 10 ng ml, a Gleason score of at least 7, or radiographic evidence of extraprostatic disease. Main Outcome Measures Time to PSA failure PSA 1.0 ng ml and increasing 0.2 ng ml on 2 consecutive visits ; and overall survival. Results After a median follow-up of 4.52 years, patients randomized to receive 3DCRT plus AST had a significantly higher survival P .04 ; , lower prostate cancerspecific mortality P .02 ; , and higher survival free of salvage AST P .002 ; . Minorities The prevalence, impact, and control of hypertension differ across racial and ethnic subgroups of the US population.
